My name is Monique Navarro and I grew in El Paso, Texas on the border of Mexico and the United States. I am a graduate student at The University of Texas at El Paso and am pursuing a Masters in Rhetoric and Writing Studies with a focus on Public Administration and Political Communications.
Although I have been in love with politics since I was a young girl, growing up in a low-income community did not offer direct opportunities to be a part of progressive organizations. Still, at the age of 17, I started volunteering with my local Democratic Party and began building valuable relationships while learning about the hard work that it takes to elect those who best represent our values.
For me, these values are focused on empowering women and creating opportunities for women to truly have a voice in the decision-making that directly impacts them. I really believe that women hold the power to change the world and cannot wait to be a part of the Platform Convention in DC. Knowing that I will be able to develop a platform for change and empower women in the U.S. means everything to me.
