We do not want to look back on history and think to ourselves, “We should have taken more action.” Time and time again, we are advised to take charge of our future by refusing to allow the past to win. But time and time again, history repeats itself. The horrific stories we read about in history books are unfolding around us today. The stories of the constant abuse of people of color are very much reality today. Although we understand that immediate change will not be realized, we can start to chip away at policies that disenfranchise minorities and we can alert lawmakers that we will fight systematic oppression.
