Women are severely underrepresented in elected office, yet our rights— and our sisters’ rights— are consistently up for debate. Among those debates, is the fight for support for student parents. Over a quarter of all undergraduate students are parents. Elected officials are in committees and conversations to decide the fate of current grants and programs that support child care services on campus. These grants and programs enable student parents to gain entry into the many doors of opportunity that higher education opens. The decisions made are sure to impact the lives of too many young women for us to sit on the sidelines, which is why we arrived at “Student Parents” for our first Policy Debate Pack topic.
